Revelations

Synopsis:
In this conclusion of a special two-part episode, finding the serial killer becomes critical to the BAU when the team realizes Reid is being held captive and a live feed of him being tortured is shown on the Internet. Meanwhile, Reid's troubled childhood is revealed in flashback sequences as he drifts in and out of consciousness.
Set In:
Atlanta, GA
Best Moments Between Characters:
  • When Gideon sends a message to Reid through the webcam, assuring him that what the Unsub is doing is not Reid's fault and that Reid is stronger than him.
  • When all the members of the team tell Hotch all his worst faults.
  • Tobias saving Reid's life by giving him CPR.
  • At the end, when the team finds Reid and Hotch hurries up to him. Reid looks at him and says, "I knew you'd understand" (in regards to his 'clue', see below) before hugging him.
  • Reid and JJ are hugging and he tells her that it is not her fault.

Best Lines:
  • Hotch: (to Garcia) "Think of this house as a witness: if it could talk, what would it say?"
Garcia: "My guess is, it'd tell us to get the hell out."

  • JJ: "We think Tobias Hankel may have murdered his father."
    Mickey Bates: "Good for him!"
  • Raphael: "You came back to life. There can only be one of two reasons."
    Reid: "I was given CPR."
  • Morgan: (watching Tobias hurting Reid) "I want to put this guy's head on a stick."
(in flashback sequence)
Young Reid: (to his mother, who is resting in bed) "Your doctor says you need to get some exercise."
Diana Reid: "That's because his idea of good literature is 'our bodies, ourselves'. "
Young Reid: "Well, he's your doctor!"
Diana Reid: "He's a neanderthal!"

  • Hotch: "All right, everyone, what's my worst quality?
    (Silence)

Hotch: Okay, I'll start... I have no sense of humor..."

    JJ: "You're a bully?"
Hotch: "I'm a bully. What else?"
Morgan: "You can be a drill sergeant sometimes."
Prentiss: "You don't trust women as much as men!"
Hotch: "All right, I'm all of these things, but no one said I put myself above the team because I don't. Ever."
  • JJ: (about watching the video of the murder of Pam and Mike Hayes) "If I can't watch this, I have no business being in the field."
Garcia: "Jaje, it's not a competition!"
JJ: "I need to see it."
Garcia: "If you stop being affected by things you...lose parts of yourself, you know?"
    JJ: "Show me?"
Garcia: (starts video and gets up to walk away) "I won't watch it with you."
  • Gideon: (to Reid over webcam) "Reid, if you're watching, you're not responsible for this. Do you understand me? He's perverting God to justify murder. You are stronger than him; he cannot break you."

  • JJ: "Emily?"
Prentiss: "Ya."
JJ: "How can none of this gets to you?"
Prentiss: "What do you mean?"
JJ: "You came off a desk job and now suddenly your in the field surrounded by mutilated bodies and
you don't even flinch."
Hotch: "She's right you've never blinked."
Prentiss:"I guess maybe icompartmentalize better than most people."

The turning point in the investigation:
  • The team finds out that Tobias's father was abusive and obsessed with sinning and punishment. They realize that because of this treatment combined with an addiction to dilaudid, Tobias dissociated, giving him split personalities.
  • Reid "chooses" Hotch to be killed next, because he is a "classic narcissist." He quotes a Bible verse to support this claim. Hotch knows Reid is bluffing and looks up the bible verse which leads the team to discover that Reid is being held in a cemetery.

Whodunit?
  • Tobias/Charles/Raphael: three personalities of one single man.
    • Tobias is the original per
sonality. He was raised by an abusive father and became addicted to dilaudid, which ultimately led him to become three different people. Tobias is the least guilty of the three, seeing as he keeps Reid alive.
    • Charles is Tobias's father. This personality presented itself after Charles Hankel died.
    • Raphael is the "arch angel" personality that mediates between Tobias and Charles.

Goldstripe5787 Best Episode So Far? 0 Jul 9 2011, 1:34 PM EDT by Goldstripe5787

Can we agree that this is the best episode so far? I mean, it has all the right components. Drama, suspense, and family bonds? The life of the team's youngest member is in the hands of a murderer who believes that he is doing God's will, while at the same time a mental battle is taking place inside the body of that man. Spencer is supposed to be the innocent one, the agent that stands for youth. To see him thrown into the darkness of his past under the influence of dilaudid is shattering. To see him with a gun pressed to his head, refusing to let others die for him is inspiring. I believe that the writers of the show really outdid themselves with this one.
