The Behavioral Analysis Unit profiles a serial killer who abducts two teenagers, murders one and threatens to kill the other if they don't stop him in time.

Set in:
Chula Vista, CA
Best Moments Between Characters:

Best Lines:

Hotch: "Then enlighten me or stay out of my way."

  • Jack Vaughan: "Can I help you?"
Reid: (caught at Vaughan’s computer) "Ah, hey, I was just, ah, checking to see if Lindsey contacted anyone on the internet? Predators, ah, tend to do that."
    Jack Vaughan: "Is that right?"
Reid: (talking very fast) "Yeah, statistically, actually, 43% of predators..."
Jack Vaughan: "Lindsey doesn’t like computers."
    Reid: "Oh...cool!"

  • Jack Vaughan: "This is just a normal household!"
Rossi: "Actually, it doesn't look like much of a normal house at all."

  • Mannan: "We got to find him, fast."
Reid: (Mapping out the area) "What do you think I'm doing?"
    Mannan: "Coloring in a map."

The turning point in the investigation:

The team realizes he tried to back out of the abduction but the other 2 unsubs stabbed him and thought he'd run to the police. The killed Katie and dumped her body and moved Lindsey elsewhere, unaware that Doug was dead. Garcia also comes across videos that Katie did and she mentioned Ryan's name.

I think the writers wrote Lindsey pretty realistically. I was an abused child and I survived. That is exactly how I responded. Lindsey taunted him because she knew that it would keep her alive. Sometimes, I taunted my abusers and sometimes I was quiet. You never show any fear. Even if they hurt or kill you: you remain defiant until the end. That way, even in death, you still win. Been there, done that.

Her father's reaction was really well written too. I've seen people argue that he shouldn't have shot them. In perfect world he shouldn't have to. I almost had to pull the trigger on my own mother to keep myself and my siblings safe. I would have done it too and faced whatever punishment if it meant that they would be alive and free. Thankfully, I was rescued by my father before I had to make that decision.

Yes, the bad guy could have gone to jail, but then he was the only living witness to see Jack face to face besides our heroes. And more importantly, he knows about Lindsey. Some of Jack's old "friends" could have heard about it from him in prison and tracked them down. Lindsey would have been slaughtered. To let him live would have been a death sentence.

He also could have been released due to legal issues or on good behavior and told about them. Then, our young unsub could have also escalated and become even more of a monster. Jack, being what he once was, knew that if that man walked then other women would be in danger and he could come after his own daughter again.

My abusers aren't in jail. I still sleep with weapons waiting for them to return. After that I went through, I would have done the same thing if I were in Jack's shoes. I would have then faced whatever punishment was dealt to me as long as my child was safe. If I was Lindsey, then I would have begged my father to do the same thing. Harsh, but at least I and other women would be alive.

thank you writers for not doing the right thing crap you had Reid blubbering about, just because he's Reid doesn't make him know everything about every father and daughter out there. if anything I was hoping that Jack Vaughan would shoot Reid to shut him up. This guy and his friends just kidnapped two girls kill one, then kill one of the rapists because things had gotten out of hand. He is now about to rape and kill Lindsey when her father shows up, the guy got lucky Reid was there so he got a quick death. I liked the character of Jack Vaughan and his daughter and I'd like to see them again if they are not written as victims. I'm a father and am happy I have a son because if I had a daughter I would have done exactly what Katie's father did telling Jack Vaughan about the kids and I probably would have done what Jack Vaughan did too. I don't know what real cops are like but I don't know why they have to write stories where they try harder to catch a victim who goes after the killer then the killer who was some one like Charles Manson, Bundy etc.
