Cold. Taunting. Vindictive. Vulnerable. Sympathetic.

What struck me about this stunning performance by Brianna Brown as Megan Kane is how her character mirrored that of the executives with whom she engaged: They dare not show their insecurity around their wives or work colleagues; and neither could Megan show her vulnerability. But those high-roller clients had Megan as an outlet, as a 'therapist' to whom they could ventilate, and role-play as the subservient to her dominatrix; Megan had no one to whom confide her fears.
She bared her delicate psyche to daddy toward the end, but of course he proved the narcissistic disappointment he always has been. Finally she found someone to trust without reservation, and revealed herself to the 'upstanding' Aaron Hotcher: "...the only man who didn't let me down."
This character as conceived by writer Breen Frazier goes through a myriad of emotional extremes, from unfeeling sociopath to wounded, frightened, sensitive little girl, and Ms. Borwn's performance played up and down those scales with such commitment as to make the emotion palpably rip at the heart of the viewers. At least this viewer. In the classic sense of Greek tragedy, Megan is both unsub and victim, and her death at the end hangs over the audience like a pestilence over Thebes. In fact, as she was shivering her last breath, I felt a cold charge rush through me--like anti-freeze in my veins. It took a moment to collect myself as the end credits rolled. More than a moment. A truly exceptional performance of this psychologically complex character.
