Omnivore

Synopsis:
Agent Hotchner revisits the first case he worked at the BAU when details come forth that one of the deadliest serial killers in New England's history has struck again after a 10-year hiatus..

Set In:
Boston, MA
Best Moments Between Characters:
  • When Hotch cried after he realized the "Reaper" had killed six people because he had hung up on him. Rossi talked him through it; and even tried to hand him his gun to allow Hotch to "end it."

Best Lines:
  • [Rossi offers Hotch his gun to kill himself]
Hotch: "It's a little dramatic, don't you think?"
Rossi: "My wife always said I had a flair for the dramatic."
    Hotch: "Which one?"
    Rossi: "All of them."

The turning point in the investigation:
Hotch realized that the girl who was with Foyet during his attack ten years prior had come from Michigan. The ad the Reaper placed was in a Michigan newspaper and they realized the connection was Foyet.

Whodunit?
George Foyet aka "The Reaper" - he was the only victim to survive the original attack and they never looked at him as a suspect because he was so badly injured. He took the focus off himself during the original spree by calling police, then returning to the scene and stabbing himself. At the end of the episode it was discovered that Foyet escaped from the prison he was housed in, and was still at large.

Trivia:
The episode is loosely inspired by the Zodiac Killer, who has yet to be caught.
