I can't stand this guy. He makes the show seem less interesting, He throws the whole team off. I use to wait every week for a new show, but now I love the re runs without him in it. Come on CBS get rid of him, and find someone better or leave the team as is.

The following is what I found out about his personality from the episode About Face. Warning contains spoilers.
He is challenged by shooting small moving targets. He loves his dog. He is discreetly wealthy and doesn't flaunt it. He knows what he likes and is not dictated to by others. He’s an individual. He’s not married. He doesn’t have a glory wall. He’s self-confident and his own man. He doesn’t like Strauss. Doesn’t care if Strauss knows he doesn’t like her. He probably trained Ryan, Gideon and Hotchner. Hotchner is a close, best friend? He is amused by Reids’ antics with the Halloween costume but is taken aback by Reids’ eagerness to talk to him. He is respectful of each of them and he does address Reid as Dr. He likes women not men. He admires J.J. and Prentiss although, I believe him to be too professional to ever act on the sexual interest. He is observant, gives the briefing his undivided attention and has intense concentration. He is the master of understatement, a man of few words. His comment upon meeting Garcia, “She’s different,” is short, insightful and to the point. Walking the dump sight with Reid, he visualizes/role plays the victim and the unsub, empathizing with them. He remembers the victims’ names. Usespsycholinguistics to know that the unsub is at work and make the unsub create a scene. He seems to have a sixth sense about who to go after and who is hiding something, example: unsub in the lobby. He regrets having to kill Max Pool. He discerns that Hotch has separated from Hailey. Rossi is honest about his reasons for coming back, but not the motivation. By the end, he knows that he will have to adjust and learn to trust and to share, an awesome character growth opportunity and effects on team dynamics. Rossi seems hard but it’s because everyone around him wants to use him in some manner. I think he may have a hard exterior and a marshmallow heart.

I just took this quiz. If you want to know which character loves you go to Google and type in 'Which CM Guy Would Love You?" and click the first one.
Once you take the quiz comment and tell which character you got. I got Rossi 4 times.

I don't see Rossi being the lead on any episode, but he could continue being the supporting role with more character definition. He could actually take the JJ job of being the police contact and presenting the case to the group. On a personal level, he could be working on his "unfinished business" and seeing a sex psychiatrist regarding his sexual/relationship issues.

Rossi's Lonely!!! I just never thought he would say it!!! At the end of the Reckoner, when he's talking to Hotch about Emma, he talked about a "lonely man" who had no family. He was describing himself, and warning Hotch not to do the same. Interesting!

Throughout the campaign to keep AJ and Paget in the show full time - I hear so many negative comments against Rossi's character I felt really ashamed of the fandom. It is okay to say: "I rather have Rossi's character go or appear less, for me he does not do anything. Isn't he supposed to be on book tours half the time anyway?"
It is okay not to like Rossi, really but saying that he sucks, to decide that he has no worth for anyone else on the show and so on. That is really low. There is a way to state your opinion without being a jerk about it. That does not just go for him - pretty much every it always pays off to use the more diplomatic I message and to refrain from simple hate messages aka "Rossi sucks". Sorry, I just needed to get it out, I know not all Rossi-Haters used cheap shots and were able to express their opinion in a respect inspiring way.

Please give the guy a chance. We usually need some time to get used to a new anything. Besides, I think Gideon had a perpetual unhappiness about him and I'm glad he's history only because it made it possible to bring in Rossi. Rossi more charming and easy on the eyes. But more importantly, his role adds history and substance to the BAU, being the guy who started it in the early days and thru him show how things were before as compared to present day BAU. Also, his experience and age helps to sort of bind the team, finally having a 'older brother' who's been there and done that.

So... I know that there's been quite the debate about Rossi and Gideon. I, myself like both characters, and while I do admit that I miss Gideon and I wish Mandy hadn't left the show; I like Mantegna, and I love Rossi. :) He's never said that he was here to replace Gideon, and I truly believe that he doesn't intend to impose himself like that. But this is all my opinion. I guess I just like the show so much that I can learn to accept someone new. :) What can I say? Rossi grew on me. :)
So, Criminal Minds fans. What do you think ? How do you feel about Rossi being here instead of Gideon ? Was he the right choice for this role ? Do you think that if Gideon could have picked who would be there instead of him, he would have picked Rossi (if Rossi wasn't retired) ? Or do you think that Rossi is a bad choice for Gideon's role ? (: Please, keep it civilized... Just because you like Gideon or Rossi better, doesn't mean you should depreciate someone else's opinion...

This guy sucks - His character sucks and he's destroying the show. With the writers on strike, we will be able to get to the reruns faster and watch the good episodes WITHOUT this guy. If I was the union handling the negotions fro this strike, I was force the writers to write this guy off the show and then give the writers anything else they wanted. The show was a lot better without him on it. Tonight was the first time I didn't even watch the entire show. CBS - you're blowing a good thing by keeping this guy on it. Listen to your fans - SAY NO TO JOE!!!!!

I think we need to see a little more of david rossi and why he is so guarded and cold. Delve into his misson a little more in the storyline and on the way he needs to get closer to one member of the team. Give the guy a break. He had it hard enough coming into a show this late and after a beloved character. Don't you people ever remember substitute teachers? that can't be easy.

joe Mantegna has to be the worst actor and worst fit for this role. Why he was cast in this role is beyond me. He has poor facial expressions comapared to the content of his dialog. He is slow for delivery to the point of providing the impression he has a neurological disorder.
This placement of Mantegna into this role and position was a very big disapointment. They need to remove his character very quickly.

I didn't like Rossi. I found him too harsh, to unforgiving and he challenged way too many of the characters' norms beliefs and routines too early on in his new stint. However, I *finally* got around to watching "Birthright" last night, and I admit, he's growing on me.
He's a hard character, so I can understand why people feel he's not a good fit in the team, but I think he very well could be. I think this last episode did wonders in portraying him as human and making him seem simply like less of an agent. I do think that people need to give Rossi a chance to "prove himself: (I guess) and let his character develop before we can really start passing judgment.

His entrance was good conflict decent drama
second episode was disapointing I really miss Gideon! If they are going to keep Rossi around they have to deal with his secret and humanize him making him part of the team soon...the loner, maverick thing ruins what we had and liked about the series unless they tie it in soon
