The Reaper was after Hotch. At the end of "...And Back" he makes his way into Hotch's apartment. He waits until Hotch gets home. Then he takes out his gun and said "You should have made the deal". Then he fires. In "Nameless, Faceless" we find out that he was just "Playing games" with Hotch. But he did stab Hotch 9 times. Then he drops Hotch off at St.Michael's hospital.
In "100" The Reaper finds Haley. He tells her that Aaron was killed. Hotch ends up saying his goodbye's to Haley on the phone. For the first time we see Hotch shed some tears. Foyet shot her in the throat, severing her aorta. Hotch end up finding Haley dead in the house and beats Foyet to death with his bare hands. Jack was also safe.
Foyet is the type of unsub who wants to injects himself into the investigation. In this case he made himself look like the victim by stabbing himself, making sure no major artery's were hit. He is also narcissistic. He kept Hotch alive to torture him, to show Hotch that his life was in Hotch's hands, and by killing Haley it tortured Hotch.
George Foyet's background consists of a troubled household. His mother tried to protect him from his father but she wasn't strong enough. He hated her for that. He decided that all women were weak. George killed his parents when he was 9, but it looked like a car accident. George became an orphan, but he was saved by the wealthy, sterile, east-side couple the Foyets.
