I use to think they were a good match but I am not so sure now. She had been mean to him. In True Nights she gets up and walks away and just cuts him off. She does not have the patience to be with him. Now with the baby, I would just rather them be friends.

Just friends. The show isn't far enough along (in my opinion) for them to have a "team" romance. I think it would mess up the dynamics and I honestly like the team as it is now.

"I use to think they were a good match but I am not so sure now. She had been mean to him. In True Nights she gets up and walks away and just cuts him off. She does not have the patience to be with him. Now with the baby, I would just rather them be friends. "Interesting you should say that, sue1313. I guess I took JJ's perspective in that scene on the plane, because I thought *he* was being rather insensitive (in his normal, semi-adorable and completely innocent way, of course). Reid's never shown a good ability for reading when an audience is interested in what he's saying, but in that scene in particular he seemed to cut off her emotional baring of the soul moment with a quick "yeah, that's sad. Now back to my useless trivia, please!" I love Reid to pieces, but I can definitely see why JJ would be a bit miffed about being shot down when she's trying to deal with a case that's negatively affecting her. And to answer the thread topic, I'm only really a JJ/Reid shipper in fanfiction. I've seen too many TV show inter-work relationships ruin terrific shows to want it to happen on this one. It would be adorable for a while, but inevitably, I could only see it going bad. Plus, the writers have been pushing for more of a brother-sister relationship between them over the last two seasons, so it might be slightly awkward to move back to potential romance at this point. 2 out of 2 found this valuable. I have to agree batgurl88, that Reid had never had a good ability for what people are interested in. He always gets a thought and just goes on with it until somebody stops him, and then he realize it and says, "Sorry". Remember when his dad was leaving and he was quoting stats on divorce homes. That is just our Reid. It may have to do with his autistic tendencies.

Oh, I would definitely believe it has something to do with his autistic tendencies, and I know it's not really his fault that he doesn't catch all the social cues every time (Heck - I'm horrible at that sort of thing myself). It's just Reid being Reid. But it still understandably grinds on the others' nerves from time to time (I really felt for Morgan during the 'Death Star rant', cute as it was!). Although, part of me wondered for a moment if it was entirely unintentional on Reid's part in this instance, or if he just really didn't want to talk about anything so depressing and so he jumped back to his safety net of statistics and trivia. If you want to dig really deep (and I'm *way* overanalysing here, but I'm tired, so humour me), you could read into the fact that JJ said she couldn't imagine having only a phone message to remember someone by and that she'd probably never stop listening to it. Maybe part of the reason Reid cut her off is because he didn't want to think about the fact that all he really has left of his dad is a letter (if he kept it) - because according to Emily he's pushed away most of his memories of his dad, and now he has only a letter from Gideon too. Like I said, I'm probably reading waaay too deep into this, but let's just blame it on my all-nighter, shall we? Keep Smiling! ;) 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Batgurl88, Yes, he doesn't remember anytihing about his dad during the first 10 years before his dad left. He also had Gideon letter on him and it has shown him reading it a couple of times so it makes me think that even with his memory, he needs to keep re-reading it so that he doesn't push the memory away. I could see his feeling sad about it and not wanting to face that sadness. He has only anger when he talks about his dad leaving.

Ok, child development & psych enthusiatist over here, Spencer does NOT have autistic tendencies!! If he had that, he wouldn't talk very much at all, & we all know our adorable Spencer can ramble on forever. I think his quirks mainly have to do with the fact that a) he's a genius. It's hard to bring yourself down to a "normal" level of thinking. b) He was the only child of a schizophrenic single mother. That's enough said in itself. c) He had to spend time taking care of his single schizophrenic mother, & between that & school, it left him little time to develop good social skills.Ok, off my soapbox now, but I had to defend my darling Spencer, lol. 0 out of 1 found this valuable. We all love Reid, but in season 1, Broken Mirror, the un-sub talks about his autistic tendencies, as well as MGG early on talked about Reid and anybody who has obtained the level of knowledge that Reid has almost always have some autistic tendencies and that is the way he plays the role of Reid.

Not all autistics are quiet. Especially those who are just slightly autistic and they are some of the smartest people in the world. I think it is a mix of bothautistic tendencies and social awkwardness

I agree some of it is just him being a genius and having a strange childhood and not learning the proper social skills, but from what MGG has said about his character and from what I know as a psych enthusiast myself, I always felt Reid had at least hints of Aspergers (which is one of the autism spectrum disorders).Symptoms of Aspergers syndrome can actually include such things as one-sided verbosity (like Reid's ability to ramble on about, say, Star Wars, without any input from others) and possible difficulties in basic elements of social interaction (which may include a lack of social or emotional reciprocity and impaired nonverbal behaviours like eye contact and gestures). Those with AS are *not* usually withdrawn around others - they approach others even awkwardly (taking this from Wikipedia b/c I can't find my DSM-IV) "for example by engaging in a one-sided, long-winded speech about a favorite topic while being oblivious to the listener's feelings or reactions, such as signs of boredom or haste to leave. This social awkwardness has been called "active but odd". This failure to react appropriately to social interaction may appear as disregard for other people's feelings, and may come across as insensitive." Although not part of the diagnostic criteria, people with AS may also have a tendency to motor clumsiness. Call me crazy, but doesn't this sound a bit like Reid? I can think of several perfect examples from the series that point to these and other symptoms of Aspergers, and MGG has said he does think Reid is autistic in some way. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Me too! I am so torn. I love for him to be with Hotch and the interview with somebody on death's row sounds so good but I also wanted him to be the one with Rossi to solve the 21 year old case - I wish this was two different, complete episodes.

I think they established that Reid has Asperger's.It's usually misconstrued as Autism, like people think you have to be Autistic to have it. 1 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

I knew a girl once with that & she was a lot like Reid only a LOT annoying!! My mom says though that if I knew Spencer as like a person at work or school, I'd probably think he was annoying too, lol.
