DiamondClear, Thanks for getting the chat going. I really liked this episode. I have not liked Garcia this much since the team went to Alaska ("Exit Wounds", I think). Granted I have only watched it once, but I found it very well written and very believable.

Garcia as hostage negotiator was a little strange, but I guess she knew the people involved well enough to know what to say. I did not miss her "inappropriate chatter" with Morgan; I like seeing the strength of their friendship.

Hiya!

Newbie here.

I liked last nights episode. Even though it was cheesy, I loved the scene with the butterfly that wouldn't fly away immediately but waited for the mom to accept it's leaving.

Perfect comment here, slsams. When I read the synopsis for this episode, I kind of groaned inwardly thinking of what it might be like. But I think this might have been one of the best episodes so far this season. I didn't think the idea of Garcia as the negotiator was realistic, but once it started, it made sense, because she could make a personal connection with him and use the info she knew about him to free Monica. And, like you, I enjoyed seeing the strength of Morgan and Garcia's friendship when she would have fallen apart otherwise.

Great ep! Keep 'em coming, CM cast and crew!

Hey CMs!!!

Okay, Confession! Last week, when we knew that it was going to be personal for Garcia, how many of us just knew there’d be a moment that she was freaking out, and Morgan would come to the rescue? But I like how that fact was *Not* over-played. :-) I agree too! He was there for her, but it wasn’t… super mushy!!! XD Good balance!

I understand that Monica was trying to find her daughter, but after all that at the gas station, when they played hide and seek at his house, and he covered his eyes and turned his back, there’s no reason she shouldn’t have cracked his head in!!! Of course if she had done that, the story would have been over, but it bothered me that she had a clear shot, and didn’t take it. :-) Then later when she threw the hot tea in his face, I thought that was the First right thing she did!

The sickest part about it all was learning that Bill’s talking about “his wife” in support group was really Hope. My stomach doesn’t turn very easily, but that did it. I really felt for Monica. She had comforted him thinking it was his wife! And it was her child!!! Sick goose bumps- Egh!!

I don’t know that Reid is fit in the field, wielding his gun giving orders to the unsub. It doesn’t seem natural??? I understand when a character develops, and becomes more of himself than he was at first, like Hotch emerging as team lead after Gideon left, then JJ becoming a profiler, but this transformation in Reid doesn’t seem to fit. Even though it follows a logical progression of training and experience, *this* just doesn’t seem like what Reid would have “grown up” into. :-(

And who did Monica shoot? If she missed Bill, then he went to jail. I thought she killed herself, like Hope did, but then she was at the memorial. Have we assumed that Bill is dead?

On the P.S.- At Hope’s memorial, Garcia looked awesome with her hair up! Very sophisticated, but still Garcia-esque! More often!!!

Last thought, … just reflecting overall, Monica’s quest is the same one a lot of people are on: They go to great lengths, pushing themselves with all their might, enduring all kinds of cruel depravity, in search of “ hope ”, and at the end, they find it’s not there.

:-((

I think that’s the worst part of the ep, the parallel of this one mother’s search for her child, and the entire world’s search for the reason to breathe again. This is as dark as it gets.

Maybe next week, they’ll show the ep of Reid and Morgan’s prank wars, or Taba Rusa, I think, where Reid and Morgan were stuck in the elevator! I’m going to go laugh at something right now….

The episode was great. Jack Coleman was creepy good as Bill. He gave me the creeps watching him play the unsub. Garcia was great in this episode. I love the part where Prentiss and JJ was talking to Heather about Hope. Prentiss was amazing right there telling her that she knows why she put streaks in her hair because Hope and her looked alike and she struggles to let people in. Love the Morgan and Garcia moments and the JJ and Garcia moments, in this episode. It was nice to see Garcia in the Kevlar vest. 3  out of 3 found this valuable. Do you?

Great insight here, DC. More so than any of the other season, I feel the writers are really challenging us viewers to think hard on issues such as this, and other issues like Rossi's ex asking him to help her kill herself. It's one thing to watch a show simply for entertainment, but it means more to me when we see the parallels to what happens in the world today (besides murder and mayhem, of course ;). You're right; this episode was very dark but in the end, the woman found her 'Hope' as she was able to put her daughter's body to rest.

As for next week, they are playing 'With Friends Like These.' I will be skipping my Wednesday night CM dosage for that night, as it wasn't one of the better episodes last season. Not to mention, it's Prentiss- and JJ-less and has Seaver, which are three less reasons to watch it. Guess I'll be hitting my CM DVD collection that night instead. Tabula Rasa is a great choice instead, DC. Thanks for the idea! :)

I kind of thought that that was because she hadn't really realized/accepted that Hope was dead yet. I mean, I'm sure she suspected, but it wasn't until she saw the body that she realized the truth. well, that's what I thought.

I felt sad for Hope; I mean, if she hadn't killed herself, she'd be stuck with him still and have his child, and even in hind sight, finding about what happened to her wouldn't have been happened if she hadn't died and he had needed to kidnap Monica. So then, and even in hindsight, she was truly trapped and him acting like she was his wife was just wrong ugh.

As for Garcia as a hostage negotiator, I'm just surprised that she managed to keep most of her emotions in check (since she usually doesn't) when Monica was screaming about the horrible things Bill did to Hope while Garcia was trying to talk Bill down.

I thought about that, too, after that emotional outburst during the profile delivery! It's always like the profile delivery is almost sacred! You're supposed to pay attention and try to catch the creepy-dude/dudette! Last week when JJ walked out during the profile, I was like OH :-0 !!! That was understandable because it was her baby, but when Garcia got up, and started telling folks that "Monica won't give up", and all that other stuff, I just thought that was the wrong time for an emotional outburst like that. At the end, she kept it together, but her in the field is another "non-fit" even if her experience, and outside-work activities expose her to all the gross-ness and wonky things that she doesn't see on her screens!!!

Like when she "tried to grow up into JJ", it didn't quite work either, but with JJ back as a profiler, the balance is better!!! :-)

And you said I had great insights!!! XD

That is very true that her final closure was gained, even if it wasn't what she sought, that exists as the 'bright side' to this uber-creepy dude. In the voice of Monica as the end quote: "In many dark situations, there may cometh light. Be it not as bright as what we anticipated, any light is better than darkness."

I felt so bad for Garcia in this episode but I was amazed yet again at the backbone she has. WOW. I felt sickened by this unsub more than I have others for some reason. Is it bad to say I'm glad that mom shot the guy. I hope she doesn't go to jail for it? Great episode again. Do you find this valuable?

dragonfirereidgirl, I agree that this episode showed us Garcia's "backbone". So often, she is just a silly addition, but, from time to time, we see her as a complex and interesting character. In those episodes, I find that I really like Penelope; other times, I just find her annoying.
