Bring back Jason Gideon or loose your audience

Figures... Finally CBS creates a great show with a great cast. Now the best member of the cast leaves and the show will die like some of the people in its stories, slowly and painfully. At least they didn't make David Caruso (over-actor of the decade) a new member of the team. The producers of Criminal Minds should get their heads out of their rears and bring back Mandy Patinkin, some how, some way, before they get the show canceled. Maybe they should merge Criminal Minds with Numb3rs. After all they are both FBI. That might be a hit! If they don't bring Jason Gideon back, I guess it's back to NBC for me rather than watch Criminally Mindless. What a pity. 39  out of 61 found this valuable. Do you?

I'm sorry. You want them to bring back the actor who ditched them without warning? And even if they were to do that, how exactly would you propose that they do it? Because of the format of the show, in order to introduce a new regular character, another one has to be written out. You want them to write out someone who hasn't let them down and has stuck with the show in order to bring back someone who left them in the dust?

It's not going to happen, no matter how good of an actor he was or how great his character was. It wouldn't be fair to the cast or the crew *or* the viewers. Mandy Patinkin is not the show. There are six other amazing actors and well-developed characters, and I'm getting sick of people forgetting that.

I don't understand why CBS or the writers or producers got rid of Jason Gideon - He made that show!!! I really wish they could bring him back. He did a phenomenal job as a profiler on the show. BRING HIM BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8  out of 14 found this valuable. Do you?

THEY CAN'T BRING HIM BACK CAUSE HE LEFT ON HIS OWN.WHEN THE SHOW AND THE FANS NEEDED HIM, HE SCREWED THEM OVER WHEN HE LEFT.I THINK THIS MANDY CRAP IS JUST STUPID HOW PEOPLE WANT HIM BACK AND HE SCREWED THE FANS WHEN HE LEFT (THE SAME FANS THAT LOVE HIM) AND THEY SHOW.

IF ANYONE OF YOU DON'T LIKE JOE JUST WATCH THE PAST SHOWS AND STOP COMING HERE AND WASTE YOUR TIME COMPLAINING ABOUT HOW JOE SUCKS AND HE'LL NEVER BE MANDY I DON'T WANT HIM TO BE MANDY CAUSE MANDY LEAVES SHOWS AND SCREWS THEM UP!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I think if a person is too focused on Jason Gideon and wants to bring him back because he made the show it shows that they aren't really looking into the other characters. Yes, Gideon played a very large role in the series and yes, he was a good actor to bring on for a show that needed a solid foundation, but now the show is consistently in the top 10. Furthermore, it shows strength if a show can drop characters and pick up new ones (reasons for the loss of a character aside).
Part of this comes from the fact that I've watched shows that have dropped characters and picked up new ones before. CSI NY dropped Aiden and brought in Lindsay, or more to the specific Wiki, CM lost Elle and brought on Emily. For a while, I hated Emily, from the bottom of my soul, simply because she wasn't Elle. I think after two episodes we're jumping the gun in assuming that Gideon needs to come back.
Finally, with MP out of the picture, I think it'll give some of the other actors a real chance to shine because you have to focus on them instead of on Gideon. MadderRose was right in saying that there are six other amazing actors and characters and that it seems everyone's forgetting that in the wake of MP's departure.

i think people should focus on everything else about the show that rocks, yea he's missed, but its still there! It's not like it was the gideon show for crying out loud. it's about all of them and i think that maybe if they picked someone better to replace him the transition would have been smoother. 3  out of 4 found this valuable. One of the main reason I didn't start watching the show when it first aired was because of Mandy. Now I can't get enough of Criminal Minds. i really did like the dynamic of the show in the few shows that were w/o Gideon or Rossi. I don't think the cast needed another player. but maybe that's just me. 2  out of 4 found this valuable. Do you?

I felt the same way...I really liked the few episodes after Gideon and pre-Rossi. I think the team did a great job w/out either of them. I was iffy on Rossi at first but truly like what he has brought to the show; it's different edge and he challenges the other team members more rather than coddling them. 3  out of 4 found this valuable. i agree completly. I am glad to find that i am not the only one that liked the character played by mandy patinkin. The show is not the same and worse to try to put someone else to kind of replace the exact same character , only mandy patinki can do such a complex role.
I would like mandy patinki back as gideon.

I'm no fan of Rossi (tackle him, Morgan!) but they're not trying to have him be the exact same character. I've mentioned some similarities -because people aren't polar opposites, but he's a totally different (annoying) character. He's not another Gideon and he's not meant to be. He doesn't have the same authority, he's not emotionally fragile, he looks at Reid like a creepy bug under a microscope, he hunts, and he seems to be more into status symbols -writing books and knowing about monogrammed shirts. 4  out of 5 found this valuable. I love the Joe Montagna (sp?) much better than Mandy Patinkin. Mandy Patinkin really overacts!
I crack up at some of his actions on the show. The looks on his face, the way he walks.. all over-done!

There may be reasons that Patinkin left, unknown to viewers, by design of producers.

No, Patinkin is not the show, but they play of one character off another is very good, and Patinkin's character is cerebral, quiet but strong, and believable. I'm not finding the new whatever-he's-supposed-to-be very interesting OR believable. Doesn't seem to know anything, looks like a fifth leg on a cow, and though he's a great actor, he's not right in this role. But hey, that's only my opinion.

But I agree with Ummo, there are far too few interesting shows on TV. Criminal Minds was a very intelligent and interesting program. Now it isn't, and I'm not interested anymore. Pay Patinkin what he wants, beg him to come back, continue with the same writers, and have a successful show. If that doesn't work, kill it rather than morphing it into the police show I saw when I watched last night. It was terrible: spinning camera angles, every character rushing around wildly with guns drawn, no caution, no watching each other's backs, just run run run, action action action, couldn't tell what was going on because the dialogue gave few clues in the midst of too much movement and running. Very hard to watch a great show turn into a circus, as so many others have.

Mantegna and Patinkin cannot be compared. Mantegna is a great action man, Patinkin is a thinker with superb and subtle skills; the way he uses facial expressions, small body movements is wonderful.

But Criminal Minds is about getting inside the minds of criminals. That requires intelligence, knowledge, thought, and thiking that requires a quality within the mind. Patinkin and the other characters are good at creating that on screen. Joe Mantegna's scenes in last night's show were all about action. That isn't going to work for this show. Producers may have their way, but it won't be the same show. It'll be another CSI Miami. I won't be watching.

I, personally, like Gideon better. Rossi kind of ticks me off the way he comes into the BAU all mysterious and how he thinks he's all that. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

I agree, although it may be difficult for CBS to do this. I watch the older episodes of Criminal Minds and Mandy Patinkin MAKES the show. Every show needs a star for the characters to orbit around. Mandy is the Galaxy Glue for this series to continue to be a hit. I'm sure that Mr. Patinkin did not "quit" in a vacuum. There MUST have been other issues. We may never learn of them, but I am morally cetain that they are THERE! That's my opinion and I rest my case! 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

Well, there are now more episodes with Joe than Mandy. However, I feel a good deal of sadness when I think of Mandy's departure once again from a great show, it's just a minor miracle Criminal Minds didn't end up in the same bin that Dead Like Me ended up in. 0  out of 1 found this valuable. Gideon was awesome.....he really set the show and helped the other characters become better profilers. It was so sad when he left (im obsessed and in love with Reid) and I almost cried at how he hurt Reid. He could have at least said a proper goodbye instead of just dissapearing like that, but I sort of get why he left. I mean you could see him beginning to lose it in "The Fisher King" when the unsub found his cabin. But what really sent him over the edge was Frank killing his girlfriend and attempting to kill people on his list of saved people(which helped him justify keeping his job") But altogether gideon willforever be missed(no offense to Rossi) 3  out of 4 found this valuable.
